With the cold weather finally here, we are now getting calls about sounds in attics. These are usually  raccoons, squirrels or mice.

If the sounds are heard only at night, it's usually raccoons.

If in the day only or early morning, it's usually a gray squirrel.

If at night or day, and just a scratching type sound or scurrying, it could be mice.

Bewteen Christmas and March, we will get reports of sounds "like cats fighting" in the attic. This is typically the  sounds of raccoons mating.  The young are born between mid-March and mid-June.

To the person, they will say "I don't know how they can be getting in, there's no place on my house big enough for something as big as a raccoon to get in."

A 'coon doesn't need a hole the size of a beach ball to get in. A gap as small as 4"x4" is big enough and a 2 inches by 2 inches is enough for a squirrel. The photo shows me putting my hand into a gap above a gutter on a home on Nov. 22, 2015.

Remember, we serve the CINCINNATI, OHIO area, NORTHERN KENTUCKY and SOUTHEAST INDIANA for all your pest and wildlife control needs.
